Domain Extension is more of a way to differentiate different site with thesame domain name , or it is use to give user a hint of the type of website they are about to access. E.g .com.ng is my domain extension .Some Domain Extension are Free Other are not.

Yes , I wrote about this some times ago , Don't Choose a Domain Name or extension That will Leave you regretting , once you have make a payment it is irreversible. Domain Name and Extension Should Sync with your Contents and Niche(Website/Blog Category) . If you run an entertainment website or blog your domain name must match(relate) with entertainment . you can use a domain name like
wap4guru.biz on an entertainment website or blog it does not work that way first of all wap4guru is a back choice of domain name , secondly the domain extension .biz has nothing to do with entertainment . you are at the losing end if you decide to use domain names and extension like this.

To choose a perfect domain name and extension these things need to be considered;

1. Your Niche(Website Category) - your niche tells the user what he/she should expect once they visit your website. If your niche is ‘sport and fitness ’ a visitor should not be a seeing tutorials on how to code , or how to create a blog . he should be seeing news like latest transfer , lionel messi breaks yet another record etc. So if your niche is sport make sure you domain name have something to do with sport.Your Extension Should also be relevant with sport .COM domain can naturally match with any niche so I advice you go for a .com domain name.

2. Number Of Letters - I always Advice People Not To Use More than 16 Letters as Domain Name . If you use long word as you domain name the chances of losing visitors is high.if you domain name is up to 10 go for a domain extension with few words but associated with you niche .

3. Numbers And Symbols - It is generally not advicable to use symbols or numbers in your domain name or extension. Human tense to forget so a visitor who will like to revisit your site might forget to put any number or symbol in your domain name if there is any.If you must use numbers make sure the letters don't out shine the number .
For instance www.abtech1.com.ng it is very easy to forget the 1 but if you use something like www.news247.com they 247 will easily be remembered.

4. Letters Replacement - Yes , some letters have nearly the same pronunciation but don't inter change them . S can be replaced by Z , C can be replaced by K where you are suppose to write S in you domain name and you end up write Z someone will try visiting without knowing that the S in music in your domain name is actually Z and the C is K he will write music in stead of muzik . he end up getting an error message you end up losing him.
